PRESIDENT HICHILEMA SIGNS PENSION BILLS INTO LAW

President Hakainde Hichilema on 4th June 2026 signed into law four landmark Pension Bills aimed at transforming Zambia’s pension system through enhanced benefits, improved access to retirement savings, and strengthened sustainability of pension schemes.

The Bills signed into law are the Public Service Pensions Bill, 2026, the National Pension Scheme Bill, 2026, the Local Authorities Superannuation Bill, 2026, and the Pension Scheme Regulation (Amendment) Bill, 2026.

Speaking during the signing ceremony at State House, the President described the occasion as a significant milestone for the people of Zambia. He commended all stakeholders, including employers, labour representatives, and the government institutions, for their commitment and collaboration in developing and finalising the legislations.

The President emphasized that the enactment of the pension laws formed part of his government's broader reform agenda aimed at transforming Zambia’s economy, strengthening social protection systems, and improving the welfare and livelihoods of citizens.
